CP Surendran is the author of four volumes of poetry, Gemini II, Posthumous Poems, Canaries On The Moon, and Portraits of The Space We Occupy. His debut novel , An Iron Harvest, was a critical success. He is now based in Delhi and is by profession a journalist and columnist. He is now working on a novel whose working title is A Happy Ending.

PROSPECT

While you were looking away

A dog yawned in the sun

And in the distance

A train blindfolded

By a tunnel

Window by window

Regained vision.

I thought of all the things

That could happen

When we are looking away

The universe we miss in a blink.
